The Read

Gold spent the night pinned at 4000, coiling between 3985 and 4050 as the ranges compressed into the print. After three days of selling into the 4000 target, the tape went quiet and two-sided. Buyers and sellers both stacked fresh orders overnight, demand building at 4050 to 4150 and supply loading 3850 to 3950. The book is coiled, not directional. Do not read a lean from it.

The macro tape leans the dovish way. The 10Y held Wednesday's collapse at 4.41, oil keeps bleeding under $70 at four-month lows, and the geopolitical tail is off the board. Today is a pure data session. The one holdout is the dollar, sticky at 101.59 and sitting on one-year highs. A soft print dents it, and the read is it gives way only briefly. So a bounce here is a short-cover move first, a trend change only if the dollar follows.

Volatility is maxed at 38, all of it event premium. The drop comes after 8:30, not before. Stay flat into the number and let price pick the side.

PCE · The 8:30 Binary
One line decides the session: core month-over-month against the 0.37% mark, the step up from April's 0.24%. Look through the headline near 4.1%, it is oil, and the market already saw it in CPI and PPI. Warsh's trimmed-mean is the broadening tiebreaker. A benign read near 2.3 to 2.5% says the heat is oil alone, not the whole basket.
HOT
Core MoM ≥ 0.4% · trimmed-mean broadening
The anchor breaks down. Sellers take 4000 and the fresh downside supply opens the air pocket. The dollar snaps back up.

IN-LINE
Core 0.37% · headline 4.1%
Already priced. With the down-trade this crowded, in-line reads as relief and buyers lean in. The catch: an in-line print at an accelerating level sometimes sells anyway. Let price arbitrate.

SOFT
Core MoM ≤ 0.3% · benign trimmed-mean
The short-cover squeeze fires. Buyers reclaim the shelf and trapped sellers cover into thin supply, the move feeds on itself up through the empty zone.
